We still have several openings for Todd’s workshop, so please let us know if you’d like to enroll. If you’re interested in material from Todd Schlafer, we know that he’s planning to update his site this weekend, (02/11) so be sure to check it out! To those who have already enrolled in private study or the group workshop, we’ll be sending a separate communication once all details are finalized.
Todd Schlafer’s two-day workshop with the NBS is right around the corner and we’re excited to be hosting him for a third year! We were unable to reserve a Lincoln location this year, so both days will be held in the Adult Classroom at Lauritzen Gardens. Each workshop will start at 9 am and finish up around 5 pm, with a break for lunch at Noon. The format will again be bring-your-own-tree. Cost will be $85 per day and is limited to six participants. Members will also have the opportunity to be a silent observer for a small fee of $15. This is an excellent learning opportunity at a very reasonable price, whether participating in the workshop or observing.
I’ve included links below to Todd’s site, First Branch Bonsai, in addition to a recent article from the Mirai blog by Kendall Strautman titled, “To be an American Bonsai Professional.” If you have yet to read the article, I would encourage you to check it out. Kendall is a fine writer and you’ll see several photos from our past workshops in Omaha. Todd’s web site features a portfolio, bonsai and species specific pages, which include raw/unstyled collected material suitable for the workshop. He has a large number of trees not listed on his site, so if you have a specific request, I would encourage you to contact him at firstname.lastname@example.org.
We’re also in the process of finalizing an exciting new feature on our site for members – the NBS sales page. This will allow members to buy/sell and there will likely be material suitable for Todd’s workshop. Look out for a separate announcement regarding that. If you are lacking material for either workshop or need assistance in locating material, please let me know. Regardless of your experience level, I’d be happy to assist you. Trees do need to be healthy and firmly planted/anchored in the pot in order for any work to be done on them.
When I’ve confirmed your place in the workshop, payment can be made. There is no need to reserve a spot if you’re planning to only observe, but we’d appreciate you paying prior to the workshop. If you are paying by check, please make checks payable to the Nebraska Bonsai Society and mail to our Treasurer, Tom Kipp. Payment needs to be collected no later than Sunday, February 18th, unless other arrangements are made with Tom. Payment can also be made via PayPal (Friends and Family preferred) to email@example.com.
Please let me know asap if you’d like to enroll!
